Global Missions Meet Flex-Time Volunteers

Our new virtual roles allow skilled Christian volunteers to work on a deeper level with GCOs

Global Missions Meet Flex-Time Volunteers

Global Switchboard introduced Virtual Roles, a new online resource of volunteer support for Christian mission teams. Virtual Roles immediately bridge a known gap in professional skills access for under-resourced mission organizations. With Virtual Roles, skilled Christian volunteers can now work from home to directly support marketing, bookkeeping, IT, and administrative challenges.

“There is this incredible talent pool of Christian Believers who passionately want to volunteer, but can’t leave their day job,” says Scott Elequin, Executive Director of Global Switchboard. “Our technology associates volunteers with open projects aligned to their skills sweet spot. They can choose time allotments according to their personal preference.”

The “roles” or advisory requests are written and posted directly by mission organizations to the Global Switchboard skills marketplace. Once connected, volunteers meet with mission staff to confirm the match and work begins. There is no volunteer compensation and no charge to the mission organization.

Examples of short-term Virtual Roles include, but are not limited to:

  • Social Media Coordinator
  • Proofreader
  • Accounting System Consultant
  • Homeschooling Curriculum Coach
  • IT Cyber Security Advisor
  • Human Resources Advisor
  • Graphics Designer
  • General Administrative Assistant
  • Content Writer/Editor

“Some consults only need an hour of discussion. Other volunteers advise and consult anywhere from 2-6 hours per week for a fixed duration,” explains Elequin. “We refer to our mission users as Great Commission* Organizations (GCO). They emphasize local relationships to spread the Gospel according to Jesus.  Our volunteers are essentially advising or consulting with missions in service to the Kingdom. We recognize them as Kingdom Consultants (KC).”

Elequin points out that stateside volunteer experts free up the mission team to more effectively focus on their primary local work. “One hour of efficient advisory expertise in a complex area might save them ten or more hours of hit-and-miss frustration on their own,” according to Elequin. "Virtual Roles provide a new and seamless way to serve the kingdom," he concludes.

"Just as the ancient Silk Road was a timely catalyst to rapidly distribute the Good News of Jesus, new technology leaves us no excuse but to reach every nation and every individual. We encourage your inquiries and participation.*"

“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
